Cigna offers Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans, Part D Medicare prescription drug plans and Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans in select parts of the country. Learn more about Cigna Medicare plans and the types of services and products they may cover.
Cigna is among the global leaders in health insurance, and the company has a growing footprint in the private Medicare insurance industry.
Cigna accounted for 2% of all Medicare Advantage enrollment in America in 2024.
Cigna is a global health services company serving more than 178 million customers around the world. The company provides group and individual health insurance, Medicare policies and dental plans in addition to group disability and life insurance.
Headquartered in Bloomfield, CT, Cigna was formed in 1982 after the merger of the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company and INA Corporation. Cigna is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (CI).
Cigna offers several different types of private Medicare insurance: Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C), Medicare Part D prescription drug plans and Medicare Supplement plans (also called Medigap).
Plan availability can vary by state and ZIP code.
A Medicare Advantage plan from Cigna provides all of the same benefits as Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B). In addition, these plans can also cover some additional benefits not covered by Original Medicare such as dental, vision, hearing or prescription drugs.
In certain parts of the country, Cigna offers each of the three main types of Medicare Advantage plans:
- HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plans – Choose a primary care physician to help coordinate your care and refer you to specialists within Cigna’s network of participating providers
- PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plans – Enjoy greater freedom and flexibility to seek out the health care providers you wish to see, with fewer network restrictions and no need to obtain referrals for specialist appointments (though you may be charged lower out-of-pocket costs if you visit providers within your plan network)
- SNP (Special Needs Plan) plans – Find a plan tailored to the specific health care needs of individuals with certain medical conditions or who are dual-eligible for Medicare and Medicaid
Cigna Medicare Advantage plan selection may vary by location.
If a Cigna Medicare Advantage plan isn’t for you but you still want coverage for prescription medications, a Medicare Part D plan from Cigna may be the answer. These plans provide coverage for prescription drugs and can be paired with your Original Medicare coverage.
Cigna Part D plan selection may vary by location.

Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as “Medigap,” is a way to supplement your Medicare Part A and Part B coverage.
Medigap policies help pay for the costs of certain Medicare deductibles, copayments, coinsurance and other out-of-pocket expenses tied to Original Medicare. Cigna Medicare Supplement Insurance plans are accepted by any health care provider who accepts Original Medicare.
There are 10 different types of standardized Medigap plans available in most states, all of which have benefits that are standardized by the federal government. You can use the chart below to compare the types of Medicare Supplement plans and the benefits they offer.

Cigna offers the following Medigap plans, though the selection may vary by location and not all plans may be available where you live.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan A
Plan A provides coverage of the Medicare Part A and Part B coinsurance and copayments, Part A hospice care coinsurance and copayments and the first three pints of blood needed for a blood transfusion.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan N
Plan N offers all of the same benefits as Plan A and also covers your Medicare Part A skilled nursing care coinsurance costs, the Medicare Part A deductible and foreign travel emergency care.
Plan N partially covers your Medicare Part B coinsurance costs, while you’re responsible for copays of up to $20 when you go to the doctor’s office or up to $50 if you go to the ER and aren’t admitted for inpatient hospital care.
In exchange for these copay requirements, Plan N typically charges lower monthly premiums than some other Medigap plans.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan G
Medigap Plan G is among the most popular Medigap plans. This plan covers everything found in Plan A in addition to skilled nursing care coinsurance costs, the Medicare Part A deductible, Medicare Part B excess charges and foreign travel emergency care.
The only Medigap benefit not covered by Plan G is the Medicare Part B deductible, which is $257 per year in 2025.
This means that if you have Plan G, you won’t typically face any out-of-pocket Medicare costs for the rest of the year after you meet your Part B deductible.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan F
Plan F is the most popular Medigap plan because of its comprehensive coverage.
Plan F is the only Medigap plan to provide coverage for all possible Medigap benefit areas. That includes everything found under Plan G in addition to covering the Part B deductible.
Federal legislation prevents anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020 from joining Plan F. This means that if you first became eligible for Medicare after Jan. 1, 2020, you won’t be able to apply for Plan F.
If you were already eligible for Medicare before 2020, you may still be able to apply for Cigna Medigap Plan F if it’s available where you live.
Cigna Medicare Supplement High-Deductible Plan F
Cigna offers high-deductible Plan F in some areas. This plan covers all of the same benefits as standard Plan F, but members will have to satisfy an annual deductible before the plan’s coverage takes effect.
The deductible for 2025 is $2,870. Once you spend that amount on covered care in the year, your Plan F benefits kick in and cover your out-of-pocket Medicare costs for the rest of the year. The premiums for high-deductible Plan F are typically some of the lowest of any Medigap plan premiums.
Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. A licensed insurance agent can help you compare the Cigna Medicare Star Ratings for plans offered where you live.
As a company, Cigna ranks 16 on the Fortune 500 list and maintains strong financial ratings from the leading credit reporting agencies.
You can use the Cigna Provider and Pharmacy Directories to easily search for doctors, pharmacies and other health care providers online to find out if your doctor is part of a Cigna Medicare plan network.
Does Cigna Medicare Cover Vision?
Some Cigna Medicare Advantage plans can include vision coverage, which might include benefits such as coverage for routine eye exams, prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses.
Your Cigna Medicare Advantage plan may offer an annual allowance toward the cost of frames, lenses or contacts, and you’re typically required to visit a doctor or provider in the Cigna network for your services to be covered.
Does Cigna Medicare Cover Dental?
Just like vision benefits, routine dental care is not covered by Original Medicare. However, some Cigna Medicare Advantage plans may include dental coverage such as routine teeth cleanings and X-rays or more advanced care like fillings and dentures.
Cigna also sells standalone dental plans in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia that can be paired with Original Medicare or any other type of insurance.
Cigna Medicare plan members have the ability to create an online Cigna Medicare account, which allows you to search for health care providers, obtain cost estimates for procedures, view claims and reimbursements, manage spending accounts and more.
There’s even a myCigna app available for both Apple and Android devices to bring Cigna members one step closer to their coverage information.
