Aflac Medicare Dental, Vision and Hearing Plans

  • Learn about Aflac Medicare dental, hearing and vision plans, including what they cover, average premiums, typical copay amounts and more. Compare Aflac Medicare Supplement plans that you can use alongside an Aflac DVH plan.

Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B) does not cover routine dental, vision or hearing care, so older adults on Medicare are left to get dental, hearing and vision benefits elsewhere.

Some Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) plans offer these additional benefits, or some beneficiaries may enroll in a standalone dental, vision and/or hearing insurance plan that may be used in conjunction with your Original Medicare benefits and an Aflac Medicare Supplement plan

Do Aflac Medicare Plans Cover Dental, Hearing and Vision Benefits?

While Aflac does not sell Medicare Advantage plans, the company does offer five different options for standalone dental, vision and hearing coverage that may be used alongside your Original Medicare coverage.

These plans offer your choice of:

  1. Dental coverage only
  2. Dental plus vision coverage
  3. Dental plus hearing coverage
  4. Dental plus vision and hearing coverage

Below is a brief review of each of the five Aflac plans offering these benefits.

Please note: The cost figures for premiums, copays, coinsurance and other costs are examples. The cost of premiums and copays may be different with plans available where you live. It’s important to review your plan options online or call to speak with a licensed insurance agent, as not all plans are available in all locations.

Dental Basic

The Aflac Dental Basic plan covers:

  • 100% of the cost of preventive dental services (with no waiting period).
  • 50% of the cost of basic dental services (with a six-month waiting period).

The Dental Basic plan does not cover major dental care.

The average premium for an Aflac Dental Basic plan for a 65-year-old woman in Florida is $24.24 per month. Premiums will vary based on location and age.

Dental Core

The Dental Core is a step up from the basic plan and covers:

  • 100% of the cost of preventive dental services (with no waiting period).
  • 50% of the cost of basic dental services in the first year and 60% of the cost of basic services each year thereafter.
  • Major dental care is covered at 50% of the cost beginning with the second year of enrollment (no coverage of major dental care in the first year).

The average premium for the Dental Core plan for a 65-year-old Florida woman is $37.69 per month.

Members of the Dental Core plan have the option to add hearing and/or vision coverage to their plan for a higher premium. The vision coverage comes with $10 exam copayments, $25 deductibles for frames, lenses and contacts and an allowance of $150 for 24 months.

Core DVH (Dental, Vision, Hearing)

The Core DVH plan offers the exact same dental coverage as the Dental Core plan and the same vision coverage that is optional in the Dental Core plan.

In addition, the Core DVH plan also includes hearing coverage with up to $75 towards hearing exams every year and a $500 allowance every year for hearing aids and repairs. The plan requires a $25 deductible and a 12-month waiting period for the hearing benefits.

The average premium for a 65-year-old woman in Florida is $48.63 per month.

Dental Elite

The Dental Elite plan offers upgraded dental coverage along with optional hearing benefits. Dental coverage includes:

  • 100% coverage for preventive dental services (with no waiting period).
  • 60% coverage of basic services in the first year, 70% coverage in the second year and 80% coverage beyond that.
  • Major dental care is covered at 30% the first year, 50% the second year and 70% beginning in year three.

The hearing benefits found in the Dental Elite plan are the same as those in the Core DVH plan with the only exception being a nine-month waiting period instead of a 12-month waiting period.

Premiums for a 65-year-old woman in Florida average $46.89.

Elite DVH (Dental, Vision, Hearing)

The Elite DVH plan offers the same dental coverage as the Dental Elite plan and also includes the same vision and hearing benefits outlined above.

Premiums for a 65-year-old Florida woman average $59.49 per month.

How Do Aflac Dental, Vision and Hearing Plans Work With Medicare?

For all that Original Medicare covers, it does not provide any coverage of routine dental, vision or hearing care, which are three areas of health care that can be critical for older adults.

A dental, vision and hearing care plan from Aflac can be used on top of your Original Medicare coverage to fill those voids and provide benefits in these key areas. Aflac also sells Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) plans that help pay for Original Medicare out-of-pocket costs like deductibles and copays.

Contact a licensed insurance agent today to learn more about Medicare Supplement plans sold available where you live, including what they cover, how much they cost and whether you’re eligible.
