What Does Aflac Medicare Supplement Plan F Cover?
Plan F offers the highest level of coverage of any Medicare Supplement Insurance (or “Medigap”) plan. It is the only plan to provide coverage in each of the nine Medicare Supplement benefit categories.
Plan F is only available to Medicare beneficiaries who were eligible for Medicare before 2020. If you became eligible for Medicare after January 1, 2020, you cannot enroll in Plan F. You may want to consider Plan G, as it is the Medigap plan that offers the most coverage out of any plan available to new Medicare beneficiaries.
The chart below gives an overview of how Plan F coverage compares with the 10 other types of standardized Medicare Supplement Insurance plans available in most states.

Medicare Part A Deductible
Medicare Part A requires a deductible to be met at the beginning of each benefit period. A benefit period begins when you are admitted as an inpatient and ends when you have gone 60 consecutive days without inpatient care.
Aflac Plan F – like all Medicare Plan F options from Aflac or any other insurance company – covers the Part A deductible in full for each benefit period, even if you experience multiple benefit periods in a single year.
Medicare Part A Coinsurance
Medicare Part A requires daily coinsurance payments for inpatient stays once the Part A deductible has been satisfied. Aflac Plan F covers these coinsurance payments in full in addition to providing inpatient coverage for 365 days after Medicare benefits have been exhausted.
Medicare Part B Deductible
Medicare Part B requires you to pay an annual deductible that must be paid before any Part B coverage takes effect. Medigap Plan F covers this deductible in full, which means you don’t have to pay it before your Part B benefits kick in.
Medicare Part B Coinsurance and Copayments
Once the Medicare Part B deductible is satisfied, you are then responsible for copayments or coinsurance up to 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for covered services and items. Medicare Supplement Plan F from Aflac or any other company will cover these copayments and coinsurance in full.
Part A Hospice Care
Medicare Part A charges small copayments for prescription medications and other items related to pain management and symptom control during hospice care along with coinsurance payments for respite care, all of which are covered in full by Aflac Medicare Supplement Plan F.
Part A Skilled Nursing Facility Care Coinsurance
Part A requires daily coinsurance payments for skilled nursing facility stays that extend beyond 20 days during a benefit period, which is covered in full by Medigap Plan F.
Part B Excess Charges
Certain health care providers have an agreement with Medicare that allows them to charge up to 15% more than the Medicare-approved amount, but a Medicare Supplement Plan F from Aflac or any other insurance company covers these excess charges in full.
First Three Pints of Blood
Medicare coverage of the blood used in a blood transfusion doesn’t begin until the fourth pint. Plan F picks up the full cost of the first three pints.
Foreign Emergency Care
Medicare coverage of emergency care received outside of the U.S. and U.S. territories is restricted to very rare circumstances. But Medicare Supplement Plan F provides 80% coverage of such care, which is the maximum amount allowed by law.
How Much Does Aflac Medicare Supplement Plan F Cost?
The cost of Aflac Medicare Supplement Plan F will depend on your location, age and gender and may even depend on when you choose to enroll. Because Medicare Supplement plan costs can vary widely, it’s best to connect with a licensed insurance agent who can provide you with a customized price quote.
It’s also important to note that Medigap plan benefits are standardized across all carriers, which means the coverage you’ll find in Aflac Plan F is the same coverage you’ll find in a Plan F sold by any other insurance company.
When shopping for Medicare Supplement Insurance, it’s wise to compare the costs of multiple available plans in your area.
